In 1955, I was attending Kiser High School. I was in a study hall on the second floor. My buddy, Dick Wilson, and I were goofing around. We had a new teacher. He was sitting across the room from me, and I was sitting on the window ledge. He dared me to jump out, and I did.
Unfortunately, the principal, Mr Heffner, came out the front doors of the school just as I jumped, and I landed on his shoulders and in a lot of trouble!
My father was called, and that is when I started paying for my mistake. Fortunately, for me, the following year in 1956, we moved to Indiana.
Don, in just a few short words, gives us the feel of being right there on that daring ledge with him. This is a good example of adding a bit of humor to a serious situation. And humor typically engages our readers. Too, it just goes to show us that we don't have to have 300 words or more to tell a good story. Thanks, Don. Now are you wondering, like I am, what other daring adventures Don jumped into in Indiana?
